Using Your Resources Instead of Your Money
Written By Jana Phelps
My husband is building a little patio in our back yard for our family and for friends that we would like to invite over this summer. He and Sam have been busy preparing the ground for the cement blocks that he will be purchasing, and he needed a “tamper” to make the ground flat and solid for the blocks he plans to lay down. He called a local rental place and found that it would cost $65.00 a day to rent the required piece of equipment. My husband is as frugal as he is creative, so he decided to make his own “tamper” out of scrap wood and some of the weights my boys use for keeping in shape.
Here is the second “prototype.”
Even our dog, Hailey, wants to get in on the action! The first prototype is in the background. It wasn’t heavy enough to do the job but my ingenious husband does not give up and he cleverly constructed his own, workable “tamper”.
My husband is a very back to basics kind of guy and he is my hero! To top it off…we saved a lot of money! Being creative with basic things you have on hand can put money in your pocket!

What a guy! He is the best handyman I know. What a blessing he is around our church! Bless you Bro. Phelps/Helps.
That is so true Janna! Glad that you all could use things around your house to work on those things in your yard that you want to build to make your house and yard look better.
What a great idea Brother Phelps! DC
